To answer these questions, we must go back almost two centuries and understand that socialism was not born as a system of power, but as a social experiment. The Experiment That Started It All In 1825, British businessman Robert Owen arrived in the United States with a revolutionary idea: to build a community based on cooperation and collective work. He bought land in Indiana belonging to the German religious leader George Rapp and founded New Harmony. Owen was not an impromptu theorist. In Scotland, where he managed textile mills, he had already implemented innovative labor reforms: reduced working hours, a ban on child labor, and sick leave.
